I bought flowers, to celebrate that I was able to walk unaided. It doesn't matter so much that it is ungainly and slow and painful, it matters that I can do it.
I've never had a "throw off the crutches" mentality, preferring to use whatever tools are available to help. I think that's why this step in recovery has been more difficult. I walk faster, further and pain free in the boot, so barefoot is not an improvement on what came before (like the boot over the cast)
Perseverance. I climbed the stairs to bed unaided.
